An Understandable Alternative to AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a long-standing dream that a machine could mimic a human being. It took on initial meaning in the 1940s but came to prominence in the 1950s.
Like Star Trek and other science fiction, it contained the germ of ideas but which were not possible in the the time frame they were conceived.
Government agencies such as Arpa and Darpa attempted to push these ideas forward but without success. However, even Darpa’s failures in to do this often did result in incremental steps forward. The triple-store datasets and databases formed the conceptual basis for organization of information that resulted in the much-vaunted “Web 2.0”.
While it did not achieve the imaginations for it, the triple-store (such as IBM’s Watson computer) were able to throw much power at the problem. Google has wisely cashed in on the concepts.
None of these attempts have achieved significant inroads into AI beyond the “6% solution” that current-day Machine Learning is.
The most likely realization of AI’s goals will linguistics-based intelligence (LBI).
